Jalon
Valley, Costa Blanca
Situated in the middle of the Cap de Nao peninsula, the Jalon valley offers a dramatic mountain landscape, rolling hills and series of unspoiled rural Spanish towns. Within the centre of Jalon valley is the town of Jalon itself, a lively town with craft shops, wine cellars, restaurants and other trades that offer a range of services to tourists. Every Saturday a large flea market is held in the area of the Azud that specializes in secondhand antique furniture.
The climate is Mediterranean with an average rainfall of around 800mm a year and the local agriculture consists mainly of the cultivation of grapes and almonds. On the mountain slopes you will see pine trees, holm oaks and many aromatic plants such as rosemary and thyme.
Jalon is centrally placed within the Jalon valley which is in the southern part of the interior of the Marina Alta.
It is about 15 - 20 minutes drive to the beaches of Calpe & Moraira.
When talking about Jalon it is impossible not to bring to your attention its local gastronomy... sweets and pastries filled with almonds, pastissets, mantecaos, mostachos and. of course, the famous pastry with green peas. Add to this the locally made sausages cooked in exciting recipes, choizos, morcilla, bufas, and longanizas. It is well worth while exploring the back streets and the minor roads leading from Jalon town as you will discover in excess of 52 bars and restaurants. The restaurants cuisine consists of both national and international food to delight your palate.
